The Resurrection of Taliban & what it means for India

The resurrection of the Taliban after a period of 20 years is surely going to create ruckus in the perspectives of the whole world towards the US and its policies including a spike of doubts in many as whether the US is truly a super power or not. It is perhaps too early to determine the prospective effects of this takeover for India but it surely is a warning as to not let the guard down. Though India does not share a any portion of its border with Afghanistan (except for PoK) , India must definitely remember the fact that its enemy neighbor Pakistan  might go the distance and seize this opportunity to strike at us. The Taliban even though mentioned that they were not interested in the matters of India (when asked about Kashmir issue), it must be understood from past experience that the Taliban are not people who can be trusted upon words or agreements. The Taliban in the past is known for breaking peace treaties or ceasefire treaties and it must be considered as a terror organiza...

What is the Uniform Civil Code and Why do we need it

Being a part of the constitution since its inception, Article 44, the Uniform Civil Code has been laying dead in the water. Not being implemented nation wide, the article has merely been dormant and intellectuals and even the judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts, on various occasions have mentioned their unhappiness about it. So what exactly is the uniform civil code and why isn't the same implemented yet? picture credit : Lego Desk The Uniform Civil Code (UCC), is a set of laws which would be applicable to all citizens irrespective of their religion in matters of marriage, divorce, inheritance and adoption. In the present scenario, the said matters are controlled by the various personal laws which are named and based on religions. These personal laws are sometimes contradictory to the general laws in effect and in situations of such conflicts of law, it is the personal law that would remain prevalent over the general law. Unfortunately, these personal laws are discriminator...

Dowry : A customary crime.

Even after having its origin dated back in the Babylonian era, dowry has still managed to be the hot topic in 2021. The practice of setting a price tag on the daughter has gone unchecked for centuries and now its only an unfortunate news than shocking. Another day, another hashtag. (Credits : assignmentpoint.com)          But what exactly is Dowry today? Is it a crime or yet another unconstitutional custom? The Dowry Prohibition Act enacted in 1961 has clearly made it illegal to demand or accept dowry in any format. So a presumed answer would be that it is a crime. If so why is dowry system unchecked and still prevalent in India and why is it still on a rise? The recent unfortunate incidents of dowry deaths in India has given out a negative impact to the whole Act itself and people have branded it to be useless. For six decades the act has been in effect and yet the system has never been eradicated in today's India. In fact, what crime has ever become extin...

India and its shredded vaccine policy : An overview

2021 has been a quick journey from checking instagram stories to checking vaccine slots. It is no secret to any citizen with a phone in their hands that the vaccine policy has clearly failed in this great nation. From being the world's largest vaccine exporter to soon to be the world's largest vaccine importer, it was indeed a walk of shame. It wasn't something that the administration never saw coming. Infact they saw it coming from miles away and yet, the lack of responsibility is costing lives every second. Liberalisation of vaccine market at a time of crisis is arguably required according to some. But excessive liberalisation would result in the charioteer losing control over his horses and that's exactly what happened in India.                               (credits : BBC) The vaccination drive that started in January 2021, was a ray of hope to the pandemic cast world. But when rich nations booked...

The why of conflict : The Palestinian perspective to India

We often see and read about the atrocities happening to the Palestinians at the hands of the dominant Israeli military and in the recent times, it has come down to a situation where it's even harder for one to read without shedding a tear. Unfortunately as people die out there, we as Indians can only be spectators and cry out for help or perhaps, learn from it. The Jews of Israel right after the second world war in the late 1940s, made it clear to the world that they are not ready to share the land with the Palestinian Arabs, especially considering the fact that they had the British motivation of division. It eventually lead to the exodus of the Palestinians after a 6 day war to refugee camps in Jordan, The West Bank, Gaza strip etc.  The disputes never ended. The wars raged on from time to time and more Palestinian blood was spilt over as more Israeli dominance took over. As time went on, wars kept increasing. Almost every peace attempt had failed and countless lives w...

Raising a minion.

Religion. Politics. These two aren't much different from each other today. Infact there could be a day when the blasphemy provision might also include hurting political sentiments as well. The only one little difference that laid between the two was that the former is injected to a person as a child, which has now slowly shrunk down to almost no difference. Injecting an ideology into a young mind that's still in its clay form is the morst cruel act a parent can do to their child. The free will of the young mind is been exposed to an undue influence. I have seen children who are only 10 years old wearing wrist bands and orange threads of a party and its goals they can't even spell. I have seen young comrades March up the roads, hoisting red flags and spilling blood on the roads rather than ink on the sheets. Not knowing for whom, not knowing for what they keep being enslaved to an opinion that was never theirs.  "Modi is the best", said the 13 year old,...

'Un'Public Service Commission of Kerala.

(Photo credits : The Indian express) The well praised Kerala's left government, isn't really left out from the forces of corruption (pun intended). Being praised for its efforts in battling the pandemic and for making one of the highest developed state in the country, people did give a blind eye to its flaws. Drawing a bigger line of goodness parallel to the bad, will definitely make the goodness look better but it will never erase the bad. It is through the public service commission examinations, candidates are selected for the state government jobs in various fields. From ordinary clerks to medical officers under the government sector, every one has to clear the PSC examinations and jobs will be provided according to the ranks. But here's where the tables turned in the state of Kerala. Ironically, the most literate state of the country, decided to ignore the knowledge of an individual and decided to consider the party alligiance. It was during the fall of 2019...
